The 2018 released action-strategy-video-game Battletech brings the turn-based Mech-combat-franchise into a new generation. Use over 30 different Mechs in turn-based battles and destroy your opponents. This board is for BATTLETECH. Use this platform to discuss positive and negative aspects of the game. Buy a membership and get access to. Battletech also seems ripe for the nostalgia wave. I'm sure a large segment of the board game hobby has found memories of playing one or more Battletech.
So I'm interested in getting into Battletech with a friend but I don't know where I can order the mechs from! What online stores do you recommend? Is it something that a lot of suppliers will carry that I can pick up at my FLGS?I'm in a similar situation. I just got the new Introductory Boxed Set, and I'm grossly disappointed with the quality of the minis.
The plastic is about the same quality as that of a gumball machine toy, and with the exception of four or five, the sculpts are just comically bad-they look more like power rangers than machines of war. (The two high-density plastic mechs are ok though, and to be fair the number and quality of the books are impressive.)My solution was to buy a bunch of old MechWarrior minis off of eBay. If you keep your eye out for good prices on the larger buy-it-now lots, you can get them as cheaply as 30 to 40 cents per mini. (Compare that to $8-$11 for the Iron Wind metal minis.) The problem is that the MechWarrior bases are larger than the 1.25' hexes used by Battletech, so I'll need to rebase them to use them with Battletech. At least, that was my original plan. The thing is, having now read the rules for both Battletech and Mechwarrior, I think the latter may actually be the better game for me. I'd rather field larger forces with a mix of unit types, and not get bogged down in the fussiness of tracking hit locations and critical damage for individual units. The full line is available on their website:In addition to the normal stuff, they have some online exclusives available, along with very old models that aren't in regular production any more.Iron Wind also distributes through normal channels, so if your FLGS doesn't carry BattleTech miniatures, they should be able to order them. Because the BattleTech line is so large and it doesn't have the sales of some other miniatures games, most stores don't carry more than a selection of the most common figures, if they stock BattleTech at all. There are also some online stores that stock BattleTech. I've had great luck with the War Store:They are a great shop for any miniatures stuff, BattleTech included. Here's a link to the new Battleforce Box Set#1 (Inner Sphere)You get 3 lances (12 'Mechs) of pewter 'Mechs for 36 USD. The clan box gives you 2 stars (10 'Mechs). That's a really good deal to get you started. Are these battleforce mechs the same scale as normal mechs? I seem to remember reading that they are much smaller.Quite a bit smaller. My bad.
There was nothing in the description (other than Battleforce Scale-which my brain edited out the word scale) to indicate these were smaller. CBT website says they are 1/2 the size. Here's something someone posted at Tabletop Gaming News (hope they don't get mad for my posting it here):Blarg D Impaler wrote:May 6, 2011 at 8:13 pmThe mechs are around Epic scale (6 mm) in size. They have been displayed at Origins and Gencon in the last year or so.
