“The Star Sessions was a great opportunity for me as a newer artist, recording for the first time. Everyone involved made it an enjoyable experience; so much so that I would do it again, without a second thought. Sherrill MitchellSherrill Mitchell a native of Louisiana, developed a love for music at an early age following the lead of his parents.
Unaware of God's calling and anointing on his life, he gravitated towards percussion and drumming initially, but eventually took an interest in the piano and learned to play by ear. Since the early years, Sherrill has grown musically through an array of studies as well as some great mentors along the way, including Vivian Perryman, Minister Darryl Hawk, Minister Phil Curry, Minister Grady Austin and Pastor Cora Jackson. Currently he shares his gifts with several ministries around the Greater Seattle area.

'Kate Olsen had a really impactful class where the group was shy and reluctant to solo. She asked us if we thought we could get better by not trying and we all said no, then she asked if there were boys here do you think they would try and we all said yes. So why don't girls want to put themselves out there? Even if I don't play jazz as a career, I want to be an advocate for all the girls who have that dream.Go do all the scary things you can, take risks and don't be ashamed for being bold.
You'll never know if you never try, so give it a shot. We got this.' - Ava Lim, 12th grade saxophonist at JazzED#GirlsJazzDay2019 #SeattleJazzED #jazzeducation #jazzgirl #freemusic #cornish #musiceducation #girlpower #thefutureisfemale.
??? “Girls jazz day 2019! Got to work with ten incredible female clinicians all day and hang out with a ton of super talented girls. Seattle JazzEd has given me opportunities I would have never dreamed of and I'm glad to be part of the next generation of women in jazz.' ⠀⠀- Ava Lim, 12th grade saxophonist at JazzED⠀⠀⠀Thank you to our awesome 2019 clinicians:⠀Amelia Albert, Sam Boshnack, Marina Christopher, Tina Deitz, Beth Fleenor, Haley Freedlund, Kelsey Mines, Kathy Moore, Kate Olson, and Shaina Shepherd ?⠀⠀⠀#SeattleJazzED #jazzeducation #jazzgirl #freemusic #cornish #musiceducation #girlpower #thefutureisfemale. If you're a fan of JazzED you already know it's important to make music accessible to every kid. But even if a kid has access to music, gender stereotyping by teachers and parents may still stop them from playing the instrument that really speaks to them ? If only certain genders are 'allowed' to play certain instruments, we'd never have musicians like flautist James Galway, saxophonist Grace Kelly, or our Education Director and resident trombone powerhouse Kelly Clingan!
?#jazzeducation #jazzgirl. ✨Girls Jazz Day is only two days away and we couldn't be more excited!✨ Here are the 3️⃣ reasons why you don't want to miss it: ?COMMUNITY, aka FRIENDS & MENTORS - You'll be surrounded by kind and supportive girls and teachers who care about music. You will learn and you will be inspired. ?BRAVE, NOT PERFECT - JazzED didn't coin this motto, but we LOVE it to describe the vibe of Girls Jazz Day. You're gonna try things, you're gonna improvise, you're gonna laugh. You might make a mistake and it's going to be great. ?MOTIVATION (to keep on going) - We know it's not always easy to be a girl in jazz or band.
